The Innovation

Lebone plans to offer more holistic solutions to the pressing problems in developing countries. We work towards independent and long term technology innovations as well as more proximate business innovations that we hope will help solve the technology distribution issues in Africa.

For the initial pilot project in Tanzania, Lebone used microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology to provide direct current power for standard high efficiency LEDs and equipment like cell phone chargers. MFCs offer a exciting new option for sustainable, cheap, environmentally friendly, and locally targeted power solutions. For the Tanzania pilot study we were mentored by Peter Girguis to develop prototype fuel cells for use in the field.

If you want to read more about the science behind microbial fuel cells please visit the MFC-platform to read more about the research and on-going work of the many top top MFC researchers who have been doing extraordinary work long before we even had the idea of taking MFCs to Africa. Thank you all.
